Once again I am late however today has been interesting, I’ve been reaching out to my network for support and have spoken with a couple of great people today that I believe may help my dream get one step closer
Aside from that, my twitter following is growing and I’ve spoken to some great people today from random things like food to rabies in cows and horses! I also came across a report of a horse being rescued from a well (with just bumps and scrapes!!!) and some awsome radiographs on the facebook page of BadgerVets.
Today I’ve also been catching up on some reading, and have come across a article looking at how parrots are able to imitate what their owners say at a genetic level. Basically the technology now exists to be able to decode more complex genomes, which is also going be good for other areas as well because it means that genes relating to things like cancer can also be decoded. Back to parrots, the gene responsible for speech is FoxP1 and its used with Erg1 which allows the brains ability to reorganise itself based on new experiences. The full article is here: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2012/07/120702210229.htm for anyone interested, and the Journal itself is available in Nature (Journal #1).
Thinking about that I need to decide how I intend to reference stuff on here, I want to make it easy to follow and understand, yet easy to find stuff so I will have myself a think. I’ve also played with a few other settings on this site as well so going see what impact they have. My goal tommorow is to get my first review written and on here and my Literature Review first draft finished. I’ve got a meeting with my supervisor Monday to sign of my ethics paperwork and start my data collection.
I’ve also booked myself in with the nurse for Tuesday to talk vaccinations. I’ve been told that I may be looking at £300+ in the UK, where if I had them done after I arrived in Slovakia I would be looking at under 100 euro’s. My only concern is being ill with sideeffects for the start of term as I should have time to have these done before I get practical with animals I think. Also need to sort myself out a new dissecting kit for Anatomy. Kinda going be interesting 🙂
